Help me...

Good morning dear I have an information to ask you about a template that I took from you in Helix 3, when you still had them. I do not know how to make updates. You can help me? I used it to create a corporate website and therefore I can not change the template.

    Hi Anna,

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you please elaborate?

Which template are you talking about?
What do you need to update?

The template is Hammer. We are still at 3.6.5 now we are at the version joomla 3.8.X. Furthermore Helix has also been updated recently.
Since you no longer make the update releases of this template I would like to understand how I should do so as not to create problems of compatibility with the site.

    Hi Anna,

First, you MUST do a backup of your website, just in case.

Then you can update Joomla as usual.
You should see a notification in the Joomla admin (see the attached screenshot).
If you do not see this notification, then do the following:

    1. Go under Components -> Joomla! Update
    2. Click on the "Check for Updates" button.

If you still do not see an update, then just download the Upgrade Package and install it manually.

Furthermore Helix has also been updated recently.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean by that.
We are not developing the Hammer template any more and we have not released (and will not release) and new versions of it.

I'm sorry for the late response. The template was yours. I know very well that you have decided not to develop any more themes in Helix, nevertheless I can not redo a company site for this.
The only thing I wanted to know is if you could give me a hand in case your template could not withstand the updates.
I do not need you to explain how to update a template but, specifically, if this template can support the updates since you have decided not to produce it anymore.

I have subscribed to your site since the beginning and I have several sites created with your templates, so I will renew the subscription, but I will be very honest, I do not really like the tone of your answers. It is not my fault if you have decided not to develop more templates with Helix and if the site creates problems during the update, I do not think it is correct that the costs and time to fix it fall on me and my developer.

We hope that the update goes well otherwise I hope you give me a hand to solve them!

    Thank you and good day

    Hi Anna,

What was wrong with the tone of my reply?
I'm sorry if there is something, it wasn't my intention.
As you can see, I did my best to explain all steps in details.
If you are talking about the "MUST" part of the reply - I just wanted to stress out that you do need to have a backup in case something goes wrong.

I do not need you to explain how to update a template but, specifically, if this template can support the updates since you have decided not to produce it anymore.

I do believe that the Hammer template will work just fine with all Joomla 3.x versions (including the last one that will be released - Joomla 3.9).
If something goes wrong, just open a new discussion and I will look at the issue.

However, we will not update the Hammer template (and any other of our old Helix templates) to make them work with the upcoming Joomla 4.
We will update all our current (Gantry 5) templates in order to make them work on Joomla 4. We will publish a blog post about that in a couple of weeks.
