Serving scaled images

Hi Ivo,
my websites are pretty fast, but GTmetrix keeps on advising me about serving scaled images; my question is: how can I perform this if in particles like Memories lightbox is enabled? Obviously I can't upload a small image, because when you click on it the lightbox opens with an horrible enlarged image :(
What kind of solution do you use when you want to achieve the same result in your demo templates?
Thanks a million if you can share your little "tricks" ;)

Hi Elisabetta,

You cannot really do anything.
I mean, you can either use small (scaled) images and have them with an awful quality when opened in a Modal (which is quite unacceptable in my opinion) or you can simply forget about the "Serve Scaled Images" recommendation (which I strongly advice you to).

We do not do anything with our demos (apart from optimizing them with JCH Optimize). If you check them with GTMetrix you will see that we also serve the original images (not a scaled ones).
I just cannot be bothered by this recommendation. For me this is just one big nonsense.
Yes, the bigger image will always be bigger in size than the smaller version of the same image. But if you optimize your images with tools like TinyJPG and TInyPNG, the bigger image will be 2, 3KB bigger in size.

My sincere advice is to simply forget about the "Serve Scaled Images" thing, honestly.

Hi Ivo, thanks for confirming my idea, that is to trash GTmetrix warning about scaled images...I'm happy to know that even experts like you don't use anything special for this damned warning. I already use jch optimize plugin and Image Recycle for a perfect image compression without quality loss and from now on I will be satisfied with going on like now ? Google page speed can be very annoying, but if a page opens in less than 4 seconds I can' understand why Google tries to shake my confidence...
Thanks as usual! (and anxiously waiting for the ecommerce template ?)

    No problem at all Elisabetta!
Yep, compressing and combining your assets (JCH Optimize) together with Image Optimization is everything you need.
Trashing the (really not important) GTMetrix warnings and suggestions is the best way to go ;)

We are working hard on our next template and it is coming up nicely. So stay tuned ;)
