Good Day. Given that at this time, the Wordpress versions of your templates are not currently available, would it be copyright infringement if I created designs that look the same as the Joomla themes. I would not use the images but certainly the layouts could be assembled with Gantry 5. Just curious.
Thanks in advance, appreciate all your work and efforts.
Cheers

Hey Gordon,

We are currently working on the WordPress versions of our designs.
We will launch the WordPress themes in less than 2 months.

Now, to answer your question - you can use all our particles to build similar (or even the same) designs for your clients. But you cannot distribute the WP theme as your own product and sell it as such.
Here's what I mean - there is a big difference between developing the website for the end user (your client) and selling the theme as a product.
When you develop the website for the end user, the product is the website and their is just one client.
While, if you sell the WP theme on your website or on a marketplace, then the product is the theme and there might be many people who will purchase it, therefore there might be many clients.

In short, you can use all our products to build the website for the end user. But you cannot re-distribute our products and sell them as yours.
I hope that I answered your question ;)

Thanks Ivo for the detailed reply, its very much appreciated.

I can certainly wait for the Wordpress versions, I am not in a rush.

What I currently do for clients is I will design a conceptual site and most of the time they pick one from 3-4 designs ( done in Photoshop). If they choose one that is close then I will buy a template ( in the past from Rocket Theme) and then customize. If a client wanted particles and atoms for a project, I would have them buy them ( or I would and bill them) as part of a package. I only use the particles once for a client.

If a different client wants a new site, I would purchase a template for them and any other goodies they need ( particles, custom code) but its only used once. For example, I buy a single licensed copy of BackBuddy for every single client. If I buy a template and decided that I would use it on too different client projects, I would buy it twice. The client pays for it, and most importantly the developer gets the 2 sales. Morally, I want to support the developers as much as I can.

    Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

    Cheers,

    No problem Gordon ;)

You can use our products (themes and particles) on as many domains as you want, for as many clients as you want. You do not need to pay for additional licenses as it is on some marketplaces and on Rockettheme.

What you are doing (and will be doing) is perfectly fine and you are not breaking any Copyright rules.
As long as you build the website for the end user, everything's fine.
It would be an issue if you create WP Themes (with the same designs as our Joomla themes) by using our Particles and then you sell those themes as a "Theme Provider" either on your website or on marketplaces.
