Hello,

I have just seen the update info from Joomla for version 3.7 - Is it safe to proceed update (obviously making a backup) or are there any known issues with Gantry...

Thank you!

Tim

    Hey Tim,

Yes, it is safe to update to Joomla 3.7. But please do make a backup a first, just in case :)
We tested our templates (and the Gantry 5 framework) with Joomla 3.7 and everything seems to work perfectly fine.
If you guys notice any issues, please do let us know so we can address them in the next release of our templates ;)

I upgraded yesterday and have run extensive testing - all clear with all particles and templates as far as I can tell.

I also proceeded with the update to Joomla 3.7 and did not encounter any issues. Front and back seem to be working fine and no issues with Gantry 5.

I wrongly assumed that this version of Joomla would include the new (URL) routing system and was worried that it would cause issues with my configuration (3rd party extension) to clean up the ugly out of the box Joomla URL´s - false alarm it was not implemented in this release…

    Thank you!

Although I'm excited for this feature, I was concerned too. The Joomla team delayed the new routing implementation due to the complexities it entails. You can read about it on Joomla.org.

New Router - We are currently facing some issues with the new router if enabled on some production sites. We are working to fix them in order to provide the quality expected by our users. As such, we are unable to guarantee the inclusion of this feature in the 3.7 release at this time. Please rest assured that we are working hard to ensure it will be available as soon as possible.

On some of the forums, there are more detailed explanations.

    Best,
    Pete

    Hey guys,

Thank you for the update about Joomla 3.7... I'm glad that everything works fine ;)

Regarding the new router - yep, it was postponed for Joomla 3.8.
But even then, when you update your website to Joomla 3.8, you will still use the old/current router because the new one will be disabled by default.
There will be an option to enable it so you do not need to worry ;)

Thank you both for the insides!

It is good to know that the feature will be implemented in Joomla 3.8 and can be enabled at “will” to see how the sites with established URL's will react…

As a side note: I noticed that Gantry released a new version

Added official support for Joomla 3.7

    No problem at all Tim!
Yes, Gantry 5.4.12 was just released and it adds Joomla 3.7 support.
Gantry 5 was perfectly compatible with Joomla 3.7 but only if you had it already installed in Joomla 3.6.5 or prior.
I mean, you couldn't make a new Gantry 5 installation on Joomla 3.7 and you couldn't update the Gantry 5 framework once you go to Joomla 3.7 because you would get this issue.

Now, in Gantry 5.4.12 this issue is resolved ;)

Initially I have not observed any issues with the update, but over the last days I have noticed an issue with the Cache on some pages that once they are cached they are not being rendered correctly. Also a plugin that takes care of removing the article ID and category ID seems to show in combination with some other extensions problems (e.g Sitemap generation and on one Particle “Top News” when on homepage) whereby the article ID is back again.

Investigating the issue I found this on the Akeeba website:

Joomla! 3.7.0 has a bug which prevents CLI scripts from executing correctly. We have identified the root cause of this issue and we are providing a workaround - even though Joomla's production team has acknowledged the issue and will fix it eventually…

Joomla! 3.7.0 introduced a bug in its session management API. This API is used internally by core Joomla! APIs (e.g. to get user settings) which means that using it is inescapable. Due to the nature of the bug and some code already present in the Joomla! CMS it doesn't affect its public frontend and administrator backend. It does affect, however, every third party script which needs to load the core Joomla! APIs…

    Here the detailed information

    Hey Tim,

    Thank you for the details.

Reading your comment I'm not quite sure if you are just sharing some findings or if you need support :)
If you think that there is something wrong with our products, could you please send us your site details by using the Site Details tab and we'll have a look?
Also, I will need some more information about the issues:

    1. I have noticed an issue with the Cache on some pages that once they are cached they are not being rendered correctly - what are those pages? Is the issue reproducible with the default Joomla 3 template - Protostar? Could you please attach a screenshot that shows the "wrong rendering"?

    2. Also a plugin that takes care of removing the article ID and category ID seems to show in combination with some other extensions problems (e.g Sitemap generation and on one Particle “Top News” when on homepage) whereby the article ID is back again. - is there maybe a new version of this plugin that addresses this issue?
By the way, our Joomla-related particles just fetch Joomla articles by using the API provided by Gantry 5. If you replace the "Top News (Joomla)" particle (just for test purpose) with the "Joomla Articles" particles which is a core Gantry 5 particle, do you get the same issue? There might be some adjustments that need to be made to the Gantry 5 API so it plays well with the changes made in Joomla 3.7.

    Hello Ivo,

No worries, this was NOT a service request rather an observation on what I have experienced. I did not have the time yet to fully test my observations out and narrow it down, but thought that the information (about API/CLI) might be helpful if someone else encounters issues… ;)

As there is one particular component and a plugin on my site that I’m suspecting I will have to go through the testing with the default template. I will take into account your comment and test the core Gantry 5 "Joomla Articles" particle and see if I can come up with something that can be reproduced. I will update my findings later this evening!

    Cache issue:
With regards to the caching issue it is difficult to identify a repeatable situation of the error and it seems to happen on random pages of my site. As soon I set the cache on (conservative or progressive) the first page load is fine and as soon as reloading the page (cached version) the main content area (article) just disappears. Template loads (used “my” Paradise theme and the standard Joomla theme with comparable results), menu and certain module positions show fine…

As I cannot replicate this error in a certain sequence will keep on investigating – I have found other Joomla users that are facing the same problem, but nobody has more details.

    URL issue:

I have tried using the "Joomla Articles" particle and it does the same as the “Top News” particle and the URL’s have the article ID, but this only happens on the homepage – on all the other pages where I use one of the particles I do not see this issue. I believe that this is coming from a third-party extension and will have to test further as literally now also all URL’s in the sitemap show the article ID but when navigating the site nowhere the article ID’s show up (apart from the above-mentioned case on the homepage). Very weird!

(Ivo, as I don’t have anything substantial to work on, consider this purely informative)

Thanks again for the details Tim.

Yep, the Caching issue seems to be a bug in Joomla 3.7. Have a look at this issue in Github as well.

Regarding the URL issue - yeah, it does seem to be related to a third party extension.

Ok Tim, keep on troubleshooting and if you need anything, I'm here ;)

    Hey Thomas,

I'm glad that you were able to figure it out on your own ;)

Anyway, I were not able to reproduce the issue on my end.
And you shouldn't have to disable any plugins in order to fix the issue.
Just make sure that all your extensions are up to date.
Accordion to the error message, it seems that your RokSprocket extension is not up to date.

    Hi Thomas,

If you want me to look at the issue please send me the following:

    1. Your site details by using the Site Details tab in your next comment. I tried with the details you posted in your previous comment but they do not work, I cannot log in with them.

    2. Please let me know the exact steps to reproduce the issue (where should I click, what should I do, etc). As I wrote in my previous comment, I'm not able to reproduce the issue on my end by using the Quickstart package.

    3. Attach a screenshot that shows the error. But please attach a screenshot of the whole page, not just the error message.
