Problem with Offlline Page

Hi Ivo

Perhaps you can give me some advice. Normally when designing a new website I set the site to offline and work away on the website behind the scenes. However for some strange reason over the past week my server is showing Error 503 page when a page is offline - works perfectly fine when the page is not offline - see example http://kathleens.forandesign.com/.

I contacted the server who said it was a cPanel update and it would fix itself but this has not happened. I thought I read somewhere that the Joomla offline page was 200 not 503 but I'm no expert here.

Is there a way I can get the offline page to show for the 503 error?

thanks in advance.

Hi Lynda,

This is definitely a sever related issue.
Most probably something in the .htaccess file redirects to this "503 Error Page" instead of the default "Offline" page.
My only advice is to discuss this with your Hosting Support. They are the ones supposed to fix the issue.

On the other hand, you might rename your .htaccess file (for test purpose only) and see how it goes.

P.S. The "Offline" page is just a normal page with a Login Form so it should be with status "200 OK".
By the way, have a look at this discussion in the official Joomla forum. It is quite old but has some interesting details.
